Route Changes Announced
Races to Start/Finish inside the Sioux Falls Arena
The Sioux Falls Marathon announced today that route changes have been made for the 2016 Sioux Falls Marathon, Half Marathon and Miracle 5K. The route changes will be USATF certified and the Marathon route will remain a Boston Qualifier.
The biggest change to the route will be that all races will now start and finish inside the Sioux Falls Arena. “Starting and finishing our races inside the Arena is a change that will take our race day atmosphere to the next level.” said Race Director Joe Millar, “Before making this change, we wanted to see how the Fargo Marathon handled the logistics of their indoor start so our other race director, Bryan Miller, and I made the trip to Fargo last month. After witnessing it, we were sold on the idea and the positive effect it could have as we look to take this event to the next level.”
Along with the addition of an indoor start and finish, there are also a few other minor route changes along the Marathon and Half Marathon route. “Overall, last year’s new routes were very well received but after getting feedback from our runners, we felt like some minor changes were needed.” Millar said, “We were able to take out a hill around mile 2 and replace it with an additional quarter mile of running in beautiful Downtown Sioux Falls. In addition to this, we were also able to eliminate some of the doubling back on the half marathon route and add more residential areas to the marathon route by taking it off of Sycamore Avenue and 57th Street.”
The Sioux Falls Marathon will be held on Sunday, September 11 and will include a marathon, half marathon, 5k, marathon relay and half marathon relay. To register for this year's event, click here.
